Casino Rueda 101 launched successfully!

Here's a video I made with some of the pictures from last Saturday's Casino Rueda 101 class. We had a lot of fun. The class continues next Saturday. We especially need a couple of guys.

I think this is the last Saturday we should admit new students. There's a rough idea of a syllabus that I want to finish with this group. After that there'll be a test and those that pass will move on to Casino Rueda 201.

This present class is doing very well and I feel very good about it. Our next objective is to start dancing more in public. I also want to continue to add some of the little 'crazy' patterns that people enjoy doing and watching so much.

Best regards,
Art

Eunseon makes a 'most exellent and perceptive' comment about being able to enjoy rueda at a club after only one lesson. Matter of fact, I'm going to use that comment in my future discussions on the subject.

She's right though...and actually, I was kinda thinking about that earlier tonight. There's something about learning salsa as a group that kinda carries the individual student along and makes it easier to remember.

I remember many, many time in traditional salsa classes back in Houston when the teacher would demo a move and I'd have questions and for some reason I just wouldn't 'get it'. I'm not saying students always 'get it' the first time in rueda but there's something about the practice experience of working in a group that I really think makes it easier to learn than if it's just you and one partner.

No doubt about it, I think casino rueda is the most exciting, entertaining and sociable way to learn salsa.

I have noticed that in the majority of salsa classes, you've always got people there who never go out and dance with the other group members in public. Sometimes it a business issue but sometimes I think it's also a social confidence issue. Learning in a rueda format pretty much solves that. That's why I think we're really helping beginners (i.e. when we eventually start a true 'beginner' class) in a way that they wouldn't be helped otherwise.

So........any of you who know somebody who might be thinking of taking a salsa class to learn 'from scratch'.....I think you'd be doing them a big favor to recommend they come into our Beginner Class when we finally do start it.

"That's what I think about that." .......Gomer Pyle.

Hi, Art...It's really nice to join the Casino Rueda class last saturday..
It was very fun and easy to learn..especially I like your explanation of the calls,,even though it's spanish,,but not too hard to remember..I had also a great fun at Macondo with you, Philwhan and Eunyoung..
It was amazing that I learned only for an hour but I could enjoy it in public just right after the class.
I am looking forword to seeing you this saturday class..I need to find a guy who can come with, as I promised..
