Beginner Kizomba Class at Candela this Saturday!!

Hey Folks!

Great news!

I've got the entire weekend off and I'm coming to Seoul this Friday evening. And Saturday I'll be meeting one of our lady members for a Beginner Level lesson in Kizomba. It's free and you can come too. I'm excited about it.

That's right. I got an email from one of the lady members here who was interested in learning more about Kizomba. We connected on the phone and talked about it and I'm going to meet here there at the studio on Saturday afternoon. Pillhwan has once again very generously allowed us to use some of his space there at the studio. It happens at 2pm on Saturday, April 10th.

If you're a lady, I'd like you to try and bring a guy and, if you're a guy, I'd like you to try and bring a lady. Also please remember that Pillhwan doesn't allow 'street shoes' on his studio floors so bring dance shoes if you have then....or an extra pair of socks to dance in.

So.......I'll be there to teach this beautiful dance I've recently learned the basics of called Kizomba. If you haven't seen it yet........WOW! You're really missing something. Yeah, I still like Bachata but I think Kizomba is even more beautiful than Bachata. Take a look on www.youtube.com for "Kizomba dancing" or you can go to another site that I have (and join if you wish) called www.kizombadancer.com . I've put several videos there too.

What I'm going to be teaching Saturday afternoon is the basic Kizomba step and 5 or 6 variations. This is all stuff that I've learned over the last 2 or 3 months from a couple of DVDs I have and some practice that I've been able to do with a few of my lady friends down here near Daegu where I live and work now.

I think you'll also like the music. To me, it kinda reminds me of Hustle or Disco but there is a marked difference. It does have a very unique 'clave' of its own although I just yesterday was listening to a Kizomba tune that had the exact same clave that you also hear in salsa.

The dance is done very close and somewhat resembles tango. In fact, it's often referred to as African Tango. It's not a strenuous dance and you don't get all hot and sweaty when you do it. The guy has to lead very well and somewhat strongly and the lady has to learn to follow very well too.

You can also learn something about it at www.wikipedia.com and you can hear a lot of it at www.grooveshark.com (I was very pleasantly surprised at how much Kizomba music Grooveshark has).

I have a well known Kizomba teacher friend who lives near London and he tells me that Kizomba is very popular in England and Europe right now and that the few Kizomba teachers over there have all the business they can handle at the various salsa congresses and such. He says that salsa dancers usually pick it up very quickly and easily (i.e. the basics) and they get very fond of it once they learn it.

If you come and see it, I really think you'll like it. In general I think Koreans are very good bachata dancers and if they can see this dance I think they'll love it. If we can get some of the clubs to start playing some of it, I think it'll really do a lot to elevate the dancing culture of Seoul and Korea. We can make it happen!

Anyway.......that's the deal. Free beginner level Kizomba class, about an hour (maybe a little more), at Candela on Saturday afternoon. Once again.......history in the making at Candela!

Best regards,
Art Williams

P.S. I'm also going to make a few (3 or 4) CDs of some of my Kizomba music which I'll be giving the students who attend this workshop.
