Salsa Clubs

Turn, Kangnam, Seoul, South Korea

Your best option for late-night "real dancing" on a good floor. The dancing here is very technical, mostly on 2, and the DJ tends to play mambo or "jazzy" salsa. I find the place a little intimidating for beginners & new comers, but the foreign community that goes there is growing. If I ask I've never been turned down to dance, and the dancers warm up to you if you keep going there. 8,000 won gets you half off an alcoholic drink (beer and limited liquor). Fridays and Saturdays open around 8 p.m. but most foreigners don't get there til 10-11, and it closes around 5 a.m. Sundays 7-midnight. There is a small back room where you can smoke. Check the map. Tel. 02-557-2228

Top Bar, Apgujeong, Seoul, South Korea

The biggest club in town that quite a few foreigners go to. 8,000 gets you a free non-alcoholic drink, the bar also has beer and limited liquor. The music is half mambo half classics (salsa, cha cha, merengue, and the occasional merengue). The dancers are fairly friendly to foreigners, but there are also some who are also fairly technically good. Sundays and Wednesdays they close at 12, Fridays and Saturdays I believe they close around 2. No smoking. Tel. 02-518-7767

Macondo, Hongdae, Seoul, South Korea

This club is very small but open and has a great atmosphere. It's under new ownership and the floor's finally been changed to wood/laminate. Limited liquor, wine, and beer, smoking allowed, it opens around 8 but doesn't get busy until around 11:30. Goes until 4:30 a.m. Please check the map.

America Latina, Itaewon, Seoul, South Korea

Very popular with foreigners especially on Friday nights. There's no cover. It's a great space with the bar out of the way on the side and lots of tables, and a good floor to dance, full liquor, and smoking is allowed but I just heard they use an interchanger (?) so it doesn't get too smokey in there. Open til 6 a.m. Please check the map.

Caliente, Itaewon,Seoul,South Korea

This place is small and poorly laid out with the bar taking most of the space, plus it's extremely smokey, but it's popular with foreigners on Saturdays. They play salsa, merengue, bachata, and reggaeton. 8,000 won gets you a free drink. The floor is pretty bad so don't wear your good shoes. Dancing is mostly on 1. The place opens around 8, gets PACKED around 11:30, and stays open til 3. Friday and Saturday nights. Full bar.
